“This first episode in a series on recharging will change the traditional thinking and encourage us to slow down in order to speed up”
3:00 – Jason introduces today’s topic. Due to the time of the year, Jason released this by design given summer and the holiday that stepping back and recharging allows us to be at our best when our best is needed. This all stems from Jason’s own personal motivations to carve out time to recharge, to study, and to discover new ideas. He does this every year and it allows him to be more clear, efficient, and be better in his life and work.
7:30 – When Jason wrote his second book, ReMember, he cited a study from the Harvard business review that stated that people switch tasks between 300-500 times per day. People buy into the busyness myth; they equate busyness with effectiveness. It leads to only at 30% productivity rate. The most effective people took time to slow down to speed up thus being more effective with tasks.
9:40 – In Jason’s latest book Breathing Oxygen, he talks about the power of rest and elite performance very well, I highly recommend checking it out. How we rest, how we recharge is as important as the hard work we have to put in. American’s leave 768 million hours of unused vacation time each year. We buy into the myth we can’t stop. That somehow will limit our performance.
Stay tuned for more episodes coming out relating to maximizing performance the surprising way to do it by actually slowing down.

ABOUT THE THERMOSTAT
Conversations and micro-thoughts to engage your mind and heart.
A thermostat is proactive. It sets the temperature in a room. Controls the temperature. Regulates the temperature. But in today’s distracted, fast-paced and digital world, it’s easy for individuals and organizations to act more like thermometers, slipping into reactionary thinking, becoming scattered and inconsistent. The most compelling leaders, teams, organizations, families, or collection of humans of any kind operate in thermostat mode. They calibrate their mind and heart to set the temperature for the vision and culture they want to create. Jason Barger, globally celebrated author, keynote speaker, and founder of Step Back Leadership Consulting, is the host of The Thermostat, a podcast journey to discover authentic leadership, create compelling cultures and find clarity of mission, vision, and values.
